October 1866. Dostoevsky is in a terrible situation: if he does not hand over his new novel, The Gambler, to Stellovsky within a month, the latter will receive the right to publish the writer's works for free for nine years. In order to speed up the work process, Fyodor Mikhailovich invites a stenographer, the young Anna Snitkina.
